April 22, 2016
The eagerly awaited successor store to the Port of Wines is due to open its doors for the first time today, April 22nd.
The new store is named “The Port by the NSLC” and is located at 5485 Clyde Street – in the new building on the corner of Clyde and Birmingham Streets. Underground parking is available within the building as well as across the street at the new library.
While the store will be primarily focused on wine, boasting an impressive selection from Nova Scotia, there will also be a wide range of beers and spirits, with an emphasis on local craft brews, ciders and other local specialities.
The total range of offerings will be greatly expanded from the prior Port of Wines store on Doyle Street, combining store exclusives; products shared with NSLC specialty General Store network, as well as a list of premium General List selections.
The store will feature a new tasting/presentation room that will seat 30 people. An ongoing schedule of events will commence shortly after opening.
The new store represents a very exciting development that, together with the recently opened “Liquid Assets” store devoted exclusively to Nova Scotia products, at the Halifax International Airport, will provide tremendous new profile for this Province’s fine alcoholic beverages.
I am greatly looking forward to my first visit when I return to Halifax in early May.
Benjamin Bridge Releases New Vintage of Nova 7 – Now Also Available as “Wine on Tap.”
Nova 7 2015 vintage is now on liquor store shelves together with a new “wine-on-tap” program for the start of the patio season. In partnership with Bishop’s Cellar, 20L kegs are now available for bars, restaurants and special events customers. Last year, the winery experimented with a pilot keg program at Stillwell Beer Garden on the Halifax waterfront. Quality was very good with spritz and freshness consistently maintained. Based on this positive experience, Benjamin Bridge has produced 200 Nova 7 20L kegs with initial deliveries going to The Highwayman, Cafè Chianti, Battery Park and Il Trullo Ristorante.
Benjamin Bridge Nova 7 2015, 100% Nova Scotia-Grown 7% $24.99. Widely available at NSLC Stores, Private Wine Stores and Farmers Markets. This, Nova Scotia’s most iconic wine, is now sold right across Canada as well as Japan. The 2015 vintage shows light pink in the glass with signature perfumed floral and berry fruit scents and a trace of green herb. Strawberry flavours lead off on the palate together with background notes of citrus and cranberry. The lingering fruity finish has a touch of sweetness, refreshed by gentle fizz, balancing bright acidity and drying mineral grip. ****
