La Petite Perrière Sauvignon Blanc 2014, Vin de France 12.5% $16.99 Cristall Wine Merchants Don’t be put off by the rather generic “Vin de France” description on the label. This tastes like a Sauvignon with a much more impressive pedigree. It offers fine citrus, green apple and floral scents with succulent green and yellow fruit flavours, creamy texture, lively saliva-inducing acidity and great overall balance. ****
La Linda Malbec 2014, Mendoza, Argentina 13.5% $17.99 Cristall Wine Merchants A welcome new arrival on the Cristall shelves, this interesting Malbec shows red currant, tobacco leaf, green herbal notes, a drop of vanilla and a trace of clove on the nose. Nicely structured, with red currant fruit, approachable tannins and a light dollop of milk chocolate, it finishes with a well-integrated, lightly dry finish. ****
Schiaccianoci 2013, Negroamaro Salento IGP, Italy 13.5% $16.99 ($3 off) Cristall Wine Merchants Developed, elegantly perfumed red and dark fruit and subtle spice on the nose shift to a succulent combination of fresh cherry and ripe berry flavours with moderate tannins and gently balancing acidity on the palate. Finish is quite dry with a lingering trace of black currant fruit. ***
Black Opal Chardonnay 2014, South Eastern Australia 13.5% $12.99 ($3 off) Cristal Wine Merchants Citrus, apple and lightly nutty scents give way to crisp apple and peach flavours with background lemon citrus supported by bracing acidity, a trace of mineral and a light touch of oak. Deftly balanced wine and solid value. **
Black Opal Cabernet Sauvignon 2014, South Eastern Australia 13.5% $12.99 ($3 off) Cristal Wine Merchants Varietal Cabernet scents of black currant, blackberry, leafy green herb and a whiff of spice lead the way for ripe dark fruit flavours showing blackberry, black cherry and black currant in the mouth. A splash of milk chocolate and light tannic grip round out the finish. A balanced, easy drinking style. ***
The Mine Sauvignon Blanc 2014, Central Valley, Chile 13% $12.99 ($2 off) Cristall Wine Merchants Characteristic aromatic Chilean Sauvignon style with bright citrus, green herbal, floral and mineral scents. Grassy green fruit, especially green apple, kick in on the palate supported by prominent acidity, a lick of mineral with a clean, very dry finish. ***
The Mine Merlot 2014, CuricÅ Valley, Chile 13% $12.99 ($2 off) Cristall Wine Merchants Opens with inviting scents of ripe plum, blackberry, background cinnamon, vanilla and a whiff of green herb. Earthy dark plum, dark chocolate and interesting smokiness show up on the palate with a pleasingly smooth finish. It will pair equally well with roasted white or red meats as well as pasta in creamy red sauces. Outstanding value! ***
Pescaito Mereguera – Sauvignon Blanc 2014, Valencia DOP, Spain 11.5% $11.99 NSLC General List A blend of the local Mereguera grape with Sauvignon Blanc, this is a light crisp wine showing citrus, floral scents and tropical fruit on the nose.
