I recently paid my first visit to Harvest Wines in their (relatively) new location on Baker Drive in Dartmouth. The store is connected to the large Sobey’s store with direct access from inside, making shopping very convenient when picking up your groceries. Store Manager, Leah Anderson, who originally hails from the Okanagan Valley in BC, is very knowledgeable and enthusiastic about wines and her experienced staff are equally anxious to share their expertise and advice.
While space is relatively limited, the store is easy to get around and selection is reasonably diverse. Harvest Wines is taking its cue from the local patrons and the product mix reflects their tastes. Leah Anderson, though, is anxious to get people interested in unfamiliar but excellent wines and other specialty items like Craft Beers, which may be new to them, but which offer good value and an interesting new experience.
To encourage customers to explore new tastes, the store offers regular tastings every week. On “Better Food Tuesday’s”, Harvest and Sobey’s collaborate, with Sobey’s providing cheeses or charcuterie to pair with selected wines. Beer Tastings take place every Friday from 4pm-7pm as well as Wine Tastings every Saturday from 12pm-5pm.
My reviews of some worthwhile wines on the Harvest list can be found in the “Sean Recommends” section of this website.
Note: From December 16th-21st Harvest Wines is conducting a Spirits Sale as well as 15% off Premium wines. Visit their website to print out the on-line coupon to redeem in store.
Look out also for upcoming special offerings in the next few weeks.
